Support Anderson Silva – we want to hear from you!

Submitted by admin on April 20, 2009 – 10:20 am5 Comments

MMAMIXER.COM wants to hear from you! Anderson Silva has gotten a lot of flack regarding his 9th consecutive win in the UFC and title defense against Thales Leites. We at MMAMIXER.COM do not think Anderson Silva deserves the criticism he has been getting after his title defense. Therefore, we are throwing in our name to support Anderson. He still is an exciting fighter with a tremendous talent. He just fought a fight with an opponent who didn’t want to engage.

With that said, we would like to get our readers thoughts on the fight. Please make your comments below to voice your opinion! Weather you support him or not, we want to hear from you!

I think Anderson could have stepped up a little more early and just put him away. Once Lietes realized he had no chance standing he was satisfied with performing takedowns on himself for the remainder of the fight and would not swing. There was nothing Silva could do, once Lietes made that decision, other than appeasing Lietes and jumping into his guard. That would be a bad decision, and would not have made the fight anymore interesting. Leites would have tied him up in guard, and then we would have people talking about Silva using Lay and Pray to get the victory. The match made it almost a no win situation for Silva. My only fault with him is not walking out it the first round with his hands and feet flying and taking Lietes out before he could employ his horizontal defense.

Anderson was able to do whatever he wanted in this fight. He even did nothing and begged Leites to hit him and Leites couldn’t even execute. Anderson fought a great fight IMO. He won, defended his title and showed he can go 5 rounds. Granted the fight is far from fight of the night, Anderson didn’t get hit and defended his title with ease.

in order to be the champ, you have to beat the champ.anderson was never challenged.he toyed with the guy.if leites wanted to win so bad,why didnt he engage.

I agree. Leites was the one trying to take the title from Silva, but sure didn’t look like it. It was more of a fight with himself IMO. Leites should have came out with at least a little aggression instead of being scared. I mean, if I was fighting Silva I’d be horrified. But with a chance to take the title, he should have engaged the least bit. Silva is amazing and fought a great fight. He fought 5 rounds and still has his title. I don’t see what more people want. They just crave a great knockout or early finish, instead of being able to see a great technical fight…

great fight Anderson, keep beatin that ass

  • It basically comes down to the question, what is Anderson Silva, a fighter or entertainer? MMA is not pro wrestling, period! It is not Silva’s or any other professional fighters job to entertain, as much as many of us wish it was. His job is to win fights, nothing more. He has defended his title, however lackluster the fight may have been. In the end, he won, like it or not.
